Call Out 29: Glenmacnass Rescue 27/05/16

At 14:16 on Friday, May 27th,The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin Wickow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to assist a 60-year-old female near the Glenmacnass waterfall. The woman sustained a minor head injury after a fall. Mountain rescue medics treated the woman for her inury and evacuated her a short distance by stretcher to a waiting ambulance. The operation was stood down at 15:22.

Call Out 28: Glendalough Rescue 20/05/16

At approximately 14:46hrs on Friday, May 20th, both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to assist a 13-year-old girl who sustained a lower leg injury in Glendalough. The girl, who wa part of a large school group, was walking on the Spinc boardwalk when the incident occurred. Two teachers stayed with the girl while the rest of the group continued on their hike. Mountain Rescue personnel located the incident site, treated the girl for her injury, and transported her by stretcher to a waiting ambulance. The incident was stood down at 16:10hrs.

Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved, including: HSE National Ambulance Service; and Irish Coast Guard Rescue 116, who were on standby for the incident.

Call Out 27: Glenmalure Search 12/05/16

At approximately 19.04hrs on Thursday the 12th of May both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Siochanna to search for a missing hillwalker who was overdue on his return from the Lugnaquilla.
 

The missing man had arranged to be collected at the end of the zig zag route in Glenmalure. After some time had passed and he had not shown up, the person waiting for him became concerned and upon failing to make contact via mobile phone, raised the alarm.

 
Mountain Rescue set up base by the Glenmalure Lodge and dispatch an MR 4×4 into  to begin the search. The MR vehicle came across the missing hillwalker at Baravore having taken the wrong route down. The operation was then stood down.

Call out 26: Brockagh Rescue 09/05/16

Both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain  Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána at approximately 16:50hrs  on Monday, May 9th, to assist a female hillwalker in difficulty on the  Wicklow Way near Brockagh. The hillwalker reported that she felt faint  and was unable to complete her walk. Mountain Rescue personnel responded in a vehicle to the woman’s location and transported her to safety. She was then assessed by an advanced paramedic, where it was decided that she required no further care. The operation was stood down at 17:23hrs

Call Out 25: Blessington Lakes Search 08/05/16

At approximately  19:00hrs on Sunday, May 8th, both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain rescue Team were tasked by An  Garda Síochána to assist in a search of the Blessington Lakes. The  search, for a man in his 30s who had been swimming, was  initially water-based. Mountain Rescue personnel joined the  operation to search the lake’s shoreline and nearby woodland. The search was stood down for the night 22:30hrs.

Search operations resumed the following morning, May 9th, with land and  water-based searches conducted throughout the day. Shortly after  17:00hrs the land-based search operations were stood down. During the operation’s third day-Tuesday,  May 10th-divers from the Garda Water Unit recovered the man’s remains. The  Glen of Imaal red Cross Mountain Rescue Team would like to extend our condolences to the man’s family and  friends.

Call Out 24: Lugnaquilla Search 07/05/16

At approximately 12.33hrs on Saturday the 7th of May both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Siochanna to come to the aid of 3 Hillwalkers who had become disoriented while descending from the summit of Lugnaquilla.
 

The walkers informed MR personnel via mobile phone that they could see a lake from their position. Two hill parties were sent in to find them. One party went to Kelly’s Lough and the second to Art’s Lough. The party that arrived at Kelly’s Lough met the disoriented Hillwalkers and brought them back down the mountain to safety. The operation was then stood down.

Call Out 23: Luggala Search 05/05/16

Both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána to assist in a search for a missing person close to Luggala on Thursday, April 5th. After two days, the search in the area was stood down by the Gardai whose investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Call Out 22: Djouce Wood Incident 01/05/16

Shortly before 13:30hrs on Sunday, May 1st, both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to assist HSE National Ambulance Service personnel in Djouce Wood. HSE medics were treating a 35 year old male who had sustained a shoulder injury. Mountain rescue vehicles were deployed to the scene to assist with evacuating the man. The man was safely transported to an ambulance while MR personnel were responding. The incident was stood down at 13:36hrs.
