Ballinacor Rescue 22/06/14
- Both the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by the Coastguard at 16:50 approx on Sunday 22nd of June to assist in the search and rescue of a paraglider who had crash landed near Glenmalure in the Wicklow Mountains.
- MR personnel were immediately dispatched to search the area surrounding Croaghanmoira Mountain. The casualty was sighted by a hasty 4X4 party in the Ballinacor Estate, just below the summit of Ballinacor Mountain shortly thereafter. They reached the casualty on foot within 15 minutes of the sighting. A second party of MR Personnel were dispatched to the casualty site by 4X4 to assist.
The Polish national in his early 30’s was suffering from a suspected femoral injury and was airlifted by the Coastguard Helicopter following initial treatment for his condition at 18:15 approx. - Mountain Rescue wish to thank all involved in this successful rescue; including The Irish Coastguard, HSE, The Ballinacor Estate, The Glenmalure Lodge and Mick & Maura Heffernan.
