At approximately 02:00hrs on the morning of 20th September the Gardai requested the assistance of mountain rescue to locate a missing 66 year old hill walker who had been hiking on the Wicklow Way near Fairy Castle. Both the Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team responded. As team members arrived on scene, the Garda Air Support helicopter, had managed to locate the missing walker using its FLIR (Forward looking infra red) camera. The Garda helicopter was able to direct members of An Garda Síochána and mountain rescue team members to the location of the missing gentleman. The hill walker was treated by mountain rescue medics before being brought to safety on the Glencullen Road where he was reunited with his son.
Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved with the search, in particular An Garda Síochána.
