Lugnaquillia (05/11/11)
Today, Saturday 5th November 2011, at 1pm a walker ascending Lugnaquillia experienced chest pains and weakness. Emergency services were called and the Mountain Rescue services in Wicklow responded.
The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin&Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team responded to the incident, and rescue teams reached the man and his companions by 1.30pm and were able to make him more comfortable. The Irish Coastguard helicopter was tasked to assist and airlift the Irish hill-walker. The man in his 60’s was winched aboard the Sikorsky helicopter at 2.00pm and transferred to Tallaght hospital for further treatment. The operation was completed by 2.30pm with everyone safely off the mountain.
