More motorists rescued (24/01/10)

Volunteers from the Glen of Imaal and Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams spent another busy weekend assisting stranded motorists around the Sally Gap area. Motorists continue to ignore the advice of the Gardai and AA roadwatch by venturing to the Sally Gap.

Regardless of recent rain and significant thaw, the approach roads to the Sally Gap by Luggala, Glenmacnass and the Lough Bray’s remain encased in ice and snow, providing extremely challenging driving conditions. Rescuers are frustrated by the attitude of motorists who ignore professional advice and don’t turn around when safe to do so.

In total, ten people, including four young children were helped from their cars and brought to safety over Saturday and Sunday night. This brings callouts for stranded motorists to a total of 17, some involving multiple vehicles, since the cold weather snap began on the 20th December last.
