Missing Aircraft Located (26/10/08)

A hasty search party from The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team located the wreckage of the light aircraft which went missing on the 25th Oct.

Mountain Rescue Teams; including DWMRT, Mournes MRT, SEMRA and the Search and Rescue Dogs Association were dispatched on the ground search early on the Sunday morning.

The search area focussed on the mountainous area from Corriebracks – Lobawn – Sugarloaf stretching south of the Blessington Lakes as far as the Glen of Imaal to where a sighting of a low flying aircraft in trouble was spotted. The aircraft was discovered just below the summit of Corriebracks.

The bodies of the four occupants were recovered and the Irish Aviation Authority has begun its’ investigation.

The Glen team extends its’ sympathies to the families of those concerned and would like to thank all agencies involved in this succesful search and recovery operation.
