The two Rathdrum locals had climbed a steep gully before realising that they could not get back down to safety and alerted the Gardai.

A Glen of Imaal Mountain rescue party located the stricken pair by 8pm, and it took just over an hour to guide them down the steep ground to safety with only their pride injured.

As Mountain Rescue personnel were debriefing, another call was received from the Gardai in Bray regarding missing walkers from the youth hostel in Glenmalure. Personnel were put on stand-by while the 4×4 vehicle was sent to investigate most likely locations. The missing walkers were quickly located and escorted back to their hostel.
