Lugnaquilla Rescue (09/12/12)

NEWS RELEASE: Man Rescued From Lugnaquilla, Co. Wicklow
At 3:30pm today, December 9th, the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team were requested by An Garda Síochána to come to the aid of a male hill walker who had gotten lost when descending from Lugnaquilla in Co. Wicklow.
The walker in his 50’s who was a competent walker and a regular user of the mountains became disorientated during very tough weather conditions when he was descending from Lugnaquilla towards Baravore Carpark in Glenmalure.
Mountain Rescue Teams located the man using a technology called SARLOC which enables the teams to use his smartphone to pinpoint his location and provide a grid reference. Members of the mountain rescue teams made their way to the man’s location where they escorted him of the mountains.
