Camenabologue 28/10/13

  • Call Out: At 19:14hrs on Monday 28th October An Garda Siochana requested the assistance of the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team in locating two overdue walkers in the Lugnaquilla area of Wicklow.
  • At approximately 12:30hrs the two experienced hill walkers departed for a day in the hills with the intention of covering a looped walk taking in Lugnaquilla. The walkers were following a route description using a guidebook and were also equipped with a map and compass. Both walkers were appropriately dressed for the current weather conditions. Shortly after passing the summit of Camenabologue the weather closed in on the party and they became disorientated.
  • Tracking back to the summit of Camenabologue the two men made contact with mountain rescue. Both teams responded by deploying hill parties and 4×4 vehicles to the scene alongside members of the Defence Forces. Contact with the hill walkers by mobile phone was intermittent due to poor mobile coverage in the area. The hill walkers were asked to remain where they were in order to make searching easier. Mountain rescue personnel located both men at approximately 22:45. After a brief medical examination by mountain rescue medics they were escorted back to the original departure point. The incident was stood down at 23:45
  • Mountain Rescue would like to thank all those involved including: an Garda Siochana and The Defence Forces
