Search(14/11/10)

At approximately 23:00 , Sunday 14th November 2010, Wicklows Mountain Rescue Services were notified by Gardaí that 3 hillwalkers in their 50’s had been reported long overdue by their concerned families.

The
Glen of Imaal Red Cross MRT and Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team responded to the call for help. The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) were put on standby by Wicklows Mountain Rescue
teams to provide additional resources at first light if required, whilst a SARDA search dog team travelled to join the search teams last night.

Rescuers established a base for the operation outside Lynams Hotel in Laragh, Co. Wicklow and quickly deployed search teams to the areas in which the women had intended walking earlier that day. The Irish
Coastguard S61 helicopter from Dublin was called in to assist in the search due to the large geographical area to be covered in the operation.

At approximately 04:30 Monday morning a ‘fast and light’ search party made contact with the missing walkers along the Barnacullian Ridge, close to Mullaghcleevaun Mountain in Co. Wicklow. The three women were
in good spirits and had not sustained any injuries. They were guided off the mountain by the Mountain Rescue teams and brought back to Rescue Base in an awaiting Mountain Rescue Landrover.

The weather conditions last night were described by rescuers are bitterly cold, but with a clear night sky.

Our thanks to the agencies involved in last nights successful operation
