Call Out 33: Just after 6pm on Saturday evening, the Gardai tasked the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team to assist in locating 2 hill runners who had been missing for over 2 hours on Lugnaquillia, Wicklow’s highest mountain. The runners, who were competing in an organised event on the mountain, had missed a checkpoint which shut down at 330pm. The alarm was raised by the event managers. Thankfully the pair turned up safe and under their own steam around 620pm. They had descended down the incorrect spur, having realised their error they retraced their steps and met up with a medic providing cover on the event. He was able to alert the organisers that the pair were safe and no further action was required by rescue personnel. Mountain Rescue stood down their team members at 620pm.
