RAS NA MBAN Women’s International Road Race for Mountain Rescue

The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team is currently in the process of building their new home – the first Mountain Rescue base to be located on the east coast of Ireland.

Wondering how you contribute to the building of our Base? Here is one way you can help! Let the Glen Team’s Catherine
Devitt do all the hard work! This coming September, Catherine will participate in the Rás na mBan International Women’s Cycle Race while raising funds for the Team’s Base.

What is the Rás na mBan?
The Rás na Mban is Ireland’s premier international women’s road race. It will take place in Kerry, September 17th – 19th, attracting women riders from all over the world. The race comprises 4 stages:

  • Friday, 17 September: Stage 1, Road Race, 60km – Sneem – Kenmare – Sneem
  • Saturday, 18 September: Stage 2 – 5km Time Trial
  • Saturday, 18 September: Stage 3, Road Race, 80km – TBC
  • Sunday, 19 September: Stage 4, Road Race, 90km

CyclistThis is the first time that Catherine will participate in this event and all monies raised will go towards the building of the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team Base. Currently, the Team is without a Home; relying on its members and the generosity of the local community to store vehicles and equipment, hold training sessions and meetings. Find out more about this project HERE.

How you can help

All team members give their time on a voluntary basis, and we rely on the generosity of the public for our operations. To make a donation from any bank just use back account number 59244771, sort code 90-65-07. Our registered charity number is CHY.3950.

Pager Appeal

To alert as many members as possible at the beginning of an incident the team uses the Eirpage paging system as well as mobile phone texting. While mobile phone coverage is excellent in urban and most rural areas, we are still dependant on pagers in the remote mountainous areas to get that important message through. Unfortunately, because of the reduced use of paging in the comercial world, paging receivers are becoming expensive and hard to get. The Team is in urgent need for your unused Motorola MemoExpress Pagers. If you have any sitting around in office drawers etc. they may be of use to us. Please contact the Communications Officer at noledaly@gmail.com  if you would like to donate them to the team.
