Scarr Rescue(02/06/10)

Both the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin / Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 8.30pm this evening to 2 emergencies that occured at the same event.

During a Mountain Run two competitors suffered injuries and had to be assisted off Scarr Mountain.  One of the two women suffered a wrist injury, while the second with a lower leg injury, had to be stretchered from near the summit to an awaiting 4X4 Mountain Rescue vehicle.

At the nearest road access point the Eastern Region Health Authority ambulance was in attendance in order to transfer her to hospital.

Wicklow's Mountain Rescue service would like to thank all who assisted including the Irish Mountain Running Association, and the ERHA.

How you can help

All team members give their time on a voluntary basis, and we rely on the generosity of the public for our operations. To make a donation from any bank just use back account number 59244771, sort code 90-65-07. Our registered charity number is CHY.3950.

Pager Appeal

To alert as many members as possible at the beginning of an incident the team uses the Eirpage paging system as well as mobile phone texting. While mobile phone coverage is excellent in urban and most rural areas, we are still dependant on pagers in the remote mountainous areas to get that important message through. Unfortunately, because of the reduced use of paging in the comercial world, paging receivers are becoming expensive and hard to get. The Team is in urgent need for your unused Motorola MemoExpress Pagers. If you have any sitting around in office drawers etc. they may be of use to us. Please contact the Communications Officer at noledaly@gmail.com  if you would like to donate them to the team.
