Charlie Froud Foundation

Charlie FroudOn Saturday 25th October 2008, in very poor weather conditions, a light aircraft crashed on Corriebracks Mountain in the Wicklow Mountains. A young 14 year old boy, Charlie Froud, was on board. He was travelling with his friend Ayman and Ayman’s parents, for a short holiday in Ireland during the school mid-term. Tragically none survived the crash.

In an effort to keep Charlie’s memory alive in a positive and meaningful way, his parents, Heather and David, and his sister George have set up a foundation in his name.

The foundation was established to help raise funds for the volunteer rescue teams, led by the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team, who assisted in the search and recovery of the victims of the air crash in October 2008. The foundation is a valued friend of the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and in recognition of this the Froud family were awarded associate membership of the Team at our AGM in January 2010.

How you can help

All team members give their time on a voluntary basis, and we rely on the generosity of the public for our operations. To make a donation from any bank just use back account number 59244771, sort code 90-65-07. Our registered charity number is CHY.3950.

Pager Appeal

To alert as many members as possible at the beginning of an incident the team uses the Eirpage paging system as well as mobile phone texting. While mobile phone coverage is excellent in urban and most rural areas, we are still dependant on pagers in the remote mountainous areas to get that important message through. Unfortunately, because of the reduced use of paging in the comercial world, paging receivers are becoming expensive and hard to get. The Team is in urgent need for your unused Motorola MemoExpress Pagers. If you have any sitting around in office drawers etc. they may be of use to us. Please contact the Communications Officer at noledaly@gmail.com  if you would like to donate them to the team.
