Call Out 25: Blessington Lakes Search 08/05/16

At approximately  19:00hrs on Sunday, May 8th, both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain rescue Team were tasked by An  Garda Síochána to assist in a search of the Blessington Lakes. The  search, for a man in his 30s who had been swimming, was  initially water-based. Mountain Rescue personnel joined the  operation to search the lake’s shoreline and nearby woodland. The search was stood down for the night 22:30hrs.

Search operations resumed the following morning, May 9th, with land and  water-based searches conducted throughout the day. Shortly after  17:00hrs the land-based search operations were stood down. During the operation’s third day-Tuesday,  May 10th-divers from the Garda Water Unit recovered the man’s remains. The  Glen of Imaal red Cross Mountain Rescue Team would like to extend our condolences to the man’s family and  friends.
