Massive Sally Gap Rescue (24/02/13)

On Sunday 24/02/13 at 15.00hrs The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were requested by Gardai  to come to the aid of 100 people who had become caught out in snow and ice conditions on the Sally Gap. This included at least 2 buses. Motorists had been caught out by conditions which had deteriorated rapidly that day. This proved to be a major situation with all mountain rescue 4×4’s mobilised to deal with the situation. The Teams did not stand down until 22.00hrs.

Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved including An Garda Siochana.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the Sally Gap road as it is now impassible.
